Dearly beloved Facilitators,

Thank you for answering the call to Discipleship! May the Lord reward you a thousandfold for dedicating your precious time to point women to Christ through the study of His Word.

On this page, you’ll find a brief description of the study, the schedule, the NBS2GO study guide, useful resources from IFL, suggested prayer, a sample program outline, and links to the Scripture passages, Zoom, GroupMe, and Facebook.

The Book of James

Sourced from NBS2GO

Using the SPACE study guide, this study uncovers areas in our thinking and daily lives that need to be exchanged with biblical truths.

This study will run for 8 weeks starting September 25 and ending on November 20.

Each participant will read, meditate upon the Scripture passage, and answer the questions in the study guide during the week. You will then facilitate the small group discussion via Zoom on Monday nights.

Introduction to the Study of James

Overview, Bible Study Aids, and Related Resources from Insight for Living

Who wrote the book? Where are we? Why James is so important? What’s the big idea? How do I apply this?

Suggested Prayer As We Study God’s Word

Adapted from Bible Recap

God, give me wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Let any knowledge I gain serve to help me love You and others more, and not puff me up. Help me see something new about You I’ve never seen before. Correct any lies I believe about You or anything I misunderstand. Direct my steps according to Your Word. In Christ's name I pray. Amen!

SPACE Study Guide

TRADING SPACES— EXCHANGING THE WORLD FOR THE WORD

Please refer to the actual Leader Guide in the NBS2GO website to see the complete guide. This webpage can be used as an alternate visual aid while you’re facilitating. If used as such, it would be better to access this through another device so you can still see the faces of your participants on Zoom during your group discussion.

Use these Leader Notes to draw your members into deeper discussions. Refrain from answering the questions. The goal is to facilitate open and honest sharing among group members. (The question with an asterisk is what they see in their version of the study guide.)

DAY 1 Summary Have everyone turn to the passage. Ask for a volunteer to read it to the group. Invite several to share their written summaries.

*What is the most interesting thing you read in this passage?

  • What is the main idea?

  • What truths stood out to you in this passage?

  • What impressed you most about these verses?

  • How would explain this passage to someone else?

DAY 2 Promises Remind the group that these promises are for them! Ask the group to share their list of promises found in the passage. If no promises are found in this passage, simply move on to Day 3.

*Are there any conditions to the promises? List them. What doubt, worry, or fear should you trade for a promise?

  • Share a time when a promise, written in this passage, encouraged you.

  • What promise encourage you the most and why?

  • What significance does each promise have for you personally?

  • How would your daily life be different if you believed these promises to be true and meant for you?

DAY 3 Ask Ask and share as the whole group:

*What commands, directives, or instructions can you list from this passage? What are a few examples of how you can put these into practice?

  • What are the commands or instructions you found in this passage?

  • Which ones are easy for you to follow?

  • Which ones are harder to live by?

  • Share examples of what living out each command would: be like, look like, feel like.

  • How might these keep you from conforming to the world?

DAY 4 Conform Ask for volunteers to share ways that they can apply this week’s Scripture in their lives.

*Write how this passage applies to a current situation in your life. Write a personal prayer expressing your desire to conform to Christ and His Word.

  • How does this passage affect…

    > the way you see God and your circumstances?

    > the way you treat and interact with others?

    > the way you live?

  • What do you sense God is asking you to do in attitude or action - in response to your study of this passage?

  • Considering this passage, what you want to be true of your life?

  • What would that look like?

  • What might be your first step?

Ask for volunteers to share their prayer.

TIP: This portion is designed to lead each person toward practical life application. Transformation begins at the core. Actions follow attitudes. Remind members of confidentiality within the group. Bible study is not a place to air our dirty laundry. It is a safe place with opportunities for honesty and openness.

DAY 5 Exchange  This section is designed to encourage the group to apply God’s truth to their lives and share it with others. This causes their faith and convictions to solidify and grow—resulting in life transformation!

*How did this passage challenge your thinking or choices this week? What will you think or do differently in light of this passage? How will this transform your words and actions?

  • What is one thing God said to you through the passage?

  • What will you think or do differently in light of this passage?

  • What is one promise you are going to claim?

  • What commands will you obey? What will the results be in your life?

  • What instruction will you follow? How will this impact your life?

  • Is there any warning to heed? Any examples to follow?

  • Now what will you do to live out God’s Word?
